The Lonsdale Area Food Shelf will soon have an office furnished with new equipment provided by a grant recently awarded by FFEN (Foundation For Essential Needs), of Minneapolis.
Food Shelf Executive Director Tami Heimer said FFEN learned about them through Hunger Solutions Minnesota, and asked them to submit a letter of intent for grant money in one of five areas of need. They chose to focus on improving office technology since volunteers were using their personal equipment for food shelf business. She added that they were one in five organizations invited by FFEN to then submit a full grant proposal.
“The grant will be used to purchase a laptop, software, a printer, desk, chairs, filing cabinets and possibly a few miscellaneous items,” Heimer said.
On Tuesday, Dec. 30, FFEN representatives traveled to Lonsdale and presented the food shelf staff with the funding that will bring more efficiency and organization to the nonprofit through new technology.
“We were excited to be chosen to apply for the grant from FFEN, and very pleased when we were actually awarded the amount requested,” Vosejpka stated. “Our main focus when using food shelf funds is to maximize them toward the needs of the clients. We are very conservative when it comes to spending funds for operational costs for the food shelf. Receiving the grant from FFEN is like getting a Christmas present. We will be able to purchase items on our wish list, without feeling guilty about the money being spent.”
The Lonsdale Area Food Shelf is located at 130 Delaware St. SE. For more information, leave a message at 507-744-7453, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
