We are excited to do our second annual Hunger Uncorked event. After having 100 people come out to enjoy the vineyard and support our Food Shelf in 2017 we decided to make this an annual event!

Give Thanks and Give!
We will be giving Thanksgiving meals to our clients that they can prepare in their own homes with their family. If you would like to provide one of these meals you can do so by making a donation to the Lonsdale Food Shelf.
Making a charitable gift this week could help reduce your 2016 tax burden: read our FAQs on year-end giving
Although Give to the Max Day is one of Minnesota’s most charitable days each year, the last two days of each calendar year are generally the busiest days for online giving nationwide, as donors take a look at the opportunity to make the most of their year-end tax situation.
Should you consider “year-end giving?” Any day is a great day to give, but we’ve put together a short Q&A list to help you decide whether to make a gift by the end of 2016—read the IRS charitable contribution guidelines for official in-depth language.
How could year-end charitable giving help my tax situation?
At the end of the year, tax filers have a clearer picture of their individual tax situations. If you are near the cutoff between tax brackets, charitable gifts may help you lessen your tax burden when you file in early 2017. Additionally, with the amount saved in owed taxes, you can stretch your dollar farther to help your favorite cause!
What type of organizations should I donate to in order to qualify for charitable giving?
All certified 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to receive tax-exempt donations. In addition, most churches, synagogues, temples, mosques and government agencies are considered de facto eligible to receive donation. LAFS IS A REGISTERED 501 c 3.
How may I make a donation?
At the top of the page click donate and you can donate using a credit card or see supporting LAFS and see more
What is the deadline for charitable gifts to count for my 2016 taxes?
Donations using credit cards must be transacted on or before December 31, regardless of when the credit card bill is paid. If you decide to mail a check, it must be placed in the mail by December 31st.
If you would like to make a charitable gift to count as part of your 2016 tax returns, remember to make the gift by midnight on Saturday, December 31!
Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is an annual event that runs during the month of March. It is our biggest food and fund raiser of the year. Contributions that come in March are critical for keeping us in operations through the summer months.
You can stretch your FoodShare dollar in two ways: By donating directly to the Food Shelf, as we can purchase more food per dollar than the average person can in the grocery store; second, all the donations that come in during the campaign receive a partial match through the Greater Minnesota Council of Churches.
The Lonsdale Area Food Shelf (LAFS) will once again hold its annual Christmas Gift Program. We offer Clients with children the opportunity to sign up to receive gifts for their family. We are grateful to our community for their wonderful support in the past. We are hoping for that same support this year.
If you or your organization would be willing to help provide gifts for one or more families, please see the important deadline dates below:
Wednesday Nov 4th – last date to notify us if you wish to participate in the program
Tuesday Nov 17th to Thursday Nov 19th – date family lists will be provided to you for gift purchasing.
Wednesday Dec 2nd – date to deliver unwrapped gifts to LAFS (5:30 – 7:00 pm)
We ask that you provide 3 to 4 gifts per person ranging in price from $5.00 to $25.00. Suggested items will be provided to you along with the family number (for identification), age, male/female, clothes sizes, etc.
Families will be identified by number only. Please bag each family member’s unwrapped gifts separately, with the family identification number on the outside.
For those who would like to participate in this program, but do not have the time to shop, monetary donations are welcome. We will find a volunteer to do the shopping in your place. If you know of someone who may be interested in helping provide gifts but hasn’t been asked yet please ask them to get in touch with Tami or give her their contact information.
If you know of a family that you feel could benefit from this program, please contact us so we can check if they are on our list.
If you were able to help our program in the past, but are unable to do so this year, we understand and thank you for your previous support.
For any questions or to participate please call: Tami Heimer @ 612-207-8021 or email Lonsdalefoodshelf@gmail.com.
Thank you for making this Christmas brighter for struggling families in our community. Your kindness will always be remembered.
